net-billing

HOW NET-BILLING WORKS

Day

01

The solar system supplies power directly to your appliances. If a battery is included, any excess energy is stored for later use.

Excess

02

If the battery is full, excess energy is exported to the grid and sold to your supplier at wholesale prices.

Battery

03

When there’s not enough sunlight or energy demand is higher than production, the system first taps into the battery storage to supply the needed power.

Grid

04

If the battery is empty or not installed, your system automatically pulls energy from the grid at the standard rate.

WHY TO DO IT

01

LOWER ELECTRICITY BILLS

Significantly reduce your monthly energy expenses by producing your own power.

02

INDEPENDENCE FROM THE GRID

Operate with greater energy freedom and reliability, even during grid disruptions.

03

LESS PRICE DEPENDENCY

Shield yourself from rising utility costs and unpredictable market energy prices.

04

SALES OF EXCESS ENERGY

Earn money by exporting unused electricity back to the grid at wholesale rates.

05

TAX DEDUCTIONS FOR CONSUMERS

Take advantage of government incentives that lower the actual required capital.

06

ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY

Cut carbon emissions and support clean, renewable energy for a healthier planet.

*   For larger PV system sizes, please contact us.
*   By setting the compensation price for exported energy to 0 €/kWh, you can view indicative results for a zero feed-in system. In such cases, measures to increase self-consumption or a larger battery capacity may be recommended.

WHAT PEOPLE WANT TO KNOW

HOW TO INCREASE PROFIT

Net billing becomes more cost-effective when most of the energy produced is used instantly. In simple terms, the less energy exported to the grid and the more consumed on-site, the greater the savings. This can be achieved by running energy-intensive appliances, such as washing machines or water heaters, during sunny hours.

Energy storage in batteries and proper panel orientation also help improve efficiency. Additionally, using excess energy for water heating is a simple and affordable way to maximize the overall performance of a solar system.

Tip

Maximize self-consumption and store excess energy to boost savings with net billing.

WITH or WITHOUT BATTERY

Adding a battery to a solar net-billing system makes your energy use smarter and more efficient. During the day, your panels often produce more electricity than you need. A battery stores this extra energy so you can use it later, like in the evening or at night.

This means you rely less on the grid and save more money over time. It also gives you backup power in case of an outage.

A system without a battery costs less at the start, but with a battery you get greater independence, better use of your energy, and more long-term benefits overall.

Tip

A battery lets you use your solar energy when you actually need it most and not just when it’s produced.

ZERO FEED-IN

A zero feed-in system is a solar setup where all the energy produced is consumed on-site, without exporting any excess to the grid. It is mainly applied in areas with limited grid capacity or restrictions on energy injection.

This solution becomes particularly beneficial when combined with smart daytime consumption and energy storage. By shifting usage to solar hours and storing surplus energy in a battery, users can significantly increase self-consumption and reduce energy costs.

It is especially suitable for businesses or properties with high daily demand, while also offering a simpler and faster permitting process compared to standard systems.

Tip

Use zero feed-in with a smart consumption profile and storage to maximize self-consumption and savings.

VIRTUAL NET-BILLING

Virtual net-billing is a system where solar energy is produced in one location and used to offset consumption in one or more different locations. It is mainly applied when there is no available space to install solar panels on-site, such as in apartments or dense urban buildings.

This solution offers flexibility, allowing users to benefit from solar energy even without their own installation.

It can also support multiple properties or users under one system. With proper planning, it helps reduce energy costs and makes solar energy accessible in cases where a typical installation is not feasible.

Tip

No space for panels? Use virtual net-billing to still benefit from solar energy.

SIZE OF SYSTEM

The size of a solar system depends mainly on your contracted power and connection type. In general, installations can reach up to 100% of your agreed consumption power.

For homes, systems up to 10.8 kWp are considered residential, while single-phase connections are typically limited to 5 kWp. Larger systems usually require a three-phase connection. Choosing the right size is important: a properly sized system helps maximize self-consumption and avoid unnecessary energy export.

With the right design, you can cover your needs efficiently while staying within technical limits and optimizing the performance of your investment.

Tip

Right-size your system to match your consumption and maximize efficiency and savings.

TAX DEDUCTION

Solar installations can benefit from significant tax incentives for households. Instead of a direct subsidy, part of the investment cost is returned through income tax reductions over five years. Eligible expenses can reach up to €16,000, with a maximum annual tax reduction of €3,200.

This means a substantial portion of the initial investment can be effectively recovered over time. The benefit is spread across multiple years, making the system more affordable and improving overall return on investment.

Combined with energy savings, these incentives make solar installations even more attractive for homeowners looking to reduce both costs and long-term energy expenses.

Tip

Get back a large part of your investment through tax deductions.

PERMISSIONS

Installing a solar system is a simple and mostly digital process, especially for households. For residential systems up to 10.8 kW, the application is submitted online through a dedicated portal using the supply holder’s TAXIS credentials, usually without the need for supporting documents.

This makes the process fast and user-friendly. For businesses or larger systems, a more formal application is required, including a technical file and supporting documentation. In all cases, this is followed by a connection agreement with DEDDIE and a contract with the energy provider.

No building permit is required for rooftop systems up to 100 kW, simplifying the procedure even further.

Tip

Simple online process for households, with no paperwork.

Appartment Buildings

Installing a solar system in an apartment building is now easier and more flexible. It requires the consent of at least 51% of the residents, making it more accessible than in the past. Two or more co-owners can share the same system and agree on how the produced energy is distributed among them.

This avoids the need for separate installations, multiple meters or additional infrastructure for each apartment.

It is a practical solution for maximizing available space and reducing costs, while allowing more residents to benefit from solar energy in a simple and efficient way.

Tip

Only 51% resident consent is needed to install and share a solar system in an apartment building.
